September 2010

Back to School, Academic Achievement Club
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! Here at Kent Island Martial Arts Center it is your responsibility to work hard to become successful in both martial arts and academics. It is important to maintain a good balance between schoolwork, sports, and friends. Make it a point this school year to try your best to earn good grades, work hard in class to earn a new belt (or more), and maintain long-lasting friendships!
During this first quarter, if you work hard at school and make the honor roll, you could become apart of "Academic Achievement Club" and recieve an "Academic Achievement Patch" for your uniform. This patch can remain on your uniform as long as you are on the honor roll. If you fail to make honor roll the next quarter, the patch must be removed from your uniform. To show that you have made honor roll grades, bring in a copy of your report card for the front office to document. Once this has been done you may buy the patch, place it on your uniform, and proudly wear it in class.
Throughout the school year there will be "Achievement Program Challenges" in all of the newsletters. Students in the Academic Achievement Club are encouraged to participate in the monthly challenges. They are encouraged to bring the completed challenges to class with them, where they will be displayed at the studio.

Achievement Club Challenge of the Month
Knowledge

Knowledge is the edge we need to succeed in life. Everything we know contributes to the way we see and understand things. The more we know, the more choices we have in dealing with challenges and turning them into opportunities. Knowledge and ideas make our great civilization what it is. Knowledge is the raw material from which ideas arise. The more we know about where ideas originally came from and how traditions have evolved, the greater our ability is to make our own place in the world and appreciate what we have.

The importance of continually learning and gaining new knowledge can never be overestimated. It helps us to become the controllers of our own destinies, instead of being simply followers in the footsteps of others.

For the month of September try your best to get A's and B's on all of your tests and quizzes. Start this school year off strong with great grades!

Weapons Class
Just a remember Kent Island Martial Center is offering a Weapons Class on Thursday nights from 7:30pm to 8:30 pm. This class is available to all Black Belt Club Students.

Students of the Month
Matt and David Garvey are the students of the month for September! They have really pulled ahead in class and are excellent leaders. Red belt is right around the corner for these two talented individuals! Make sure to congratulate David and Matt on becoming student of the month!

Instructor of the Month

Candace Boettcher is the instructor of the month, for the month of September! She brings excitement and fun to the classroom and is an excellent leader and role model to all of her students. Candace's dedication to martial arts inspires those she teaches to strive to do their best and become leaders on and off the mat. Teaching martial arts almost every weekday, along with taking Mixed Martial Arts classes, and attending Masters Club are just three things she must balance in her busy schedule. Candace is a sophmore at Kent Island High School and is a soccer player as well.
